These newer vaccines need to be inexpensive, stored and transported easily and of course easily administered. For a vaccination program to be successful especially in a developing country, all these matters a lot. Heat stable plant made or edible vaccines are inexpensive to produce, can be administered orally and enhances vaccine coverage in children, particularly in the developing countries. These edible vaccines can deliver un-degraded antigens to the enteric mucosal system. This critical review summarizes plant-derived vaccines, the mucosal immune response and its efficacy.
<Email>drmadhumita08@gmail.com</Email><articletype>Review</articletype><volume>4</volume><issue>1</issue><year>2014</year><keyword>Plant-derived Vaccines,Edible Vaccines,Vaccines,Immune System,Transgenic Plants</keyword><AUTHORS>Madhumita Naithani,Deepak Viswanath,Pallavi Urs</AUTHORS><afflication>Post graduate student Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Krishnadevaraya College of Dental Sciences and Hospital, International Airport Road, Hunasamaranahalli, SMVIT Post, Bangalore-562157, Karnataka, India.,Professor and Head Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Krishnadevaraya College of Dental Sciences and Hospital, International Airport Road, Hunasamaranahalli, SMVIT Post, Bangalore-562157, Karnataka, India.,Senior Lecturer Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Krishnadevaraya College of Dental Sciences and Hospital, International Airport Road, Hunasamaranahalli, SMVIT Post, Bangalore-562157, Karnataka, India.</afflication></Article></Articles>
